The highlight of last year’s Venice Biennale was for sure Urs Fischer’s wax sculptures which were slowly melting by the hour.  The huge functioning wax candle in the full-scale form of Giovanni Bologna’s 16th-century sculpture “L'enlèvement des Sabines" was both beautiful and striking.

François Pinault’s Palazzo Grassi cleverly took inspiration from this success and the result is the show (due to open on 15 April - until 15 July) dedicated to the Swiss artist. It is the first European solo show of this scope for Fischer. It comprises around thirty of the works dating from the 1990s to the present day, some from international collections, others being commissions for this show.
